To know every step of the process
Sister business for love of textiles
The overwhelming need to have our manufacturing in India is so that we can know first hand how the artisans are being treated, who is working with us, and understand the work conditions so we can say with full transparency that our products are fair trade and that we know every step of the process.
I live in Portland, Oregon, USA and work on the designs and the marketing aspects of the business with a small team. For me, some days it’s working on mood boards and textile prints. Other days on custom design products for various stockists and Interior designers. Overseeing our up cycling projects, checking on orders, accounts, shipping and logistical matters are all things I deal with every day.Nanu, my sister, lives in Delhi so she works at the production studio every day and make frequent trips out to our dyeing and printing unit in Jaipur. A typical day includes video conferences with Deepali on various project updates (time difference between the USA and India is approximately 12 hours), working on pricing, fabric choices, patterns, color matching, labels, etc. Checking on how our current manufacturing and sampling orders are going, on dye and print orders, then discussing the next production run with our masterji (our production specialist). The Masterji delegates the production to team members.
There are several steps in running a business and we have to be on top of all the details, especially the quality of the fabric! An incorrect weave in the fabric can create problems in the print process later. You would think that after being in business for almost 10 years we would have figured out all the problems, but to our surprise we are learning almost every day!
The world of fabrics, prints, dyes, and blocks is absolutely fascinating. It can be a successful day at the block print unit when all our samples just look as beautiful as we had envisioned when we drew them on the paper and some times they can just miss the mark.
Our range of products have expanded over the years and so have our customers and we feel so grateful every day to be able to work with some of the best artisan in India, to create a great team and achieve our dreams through textiles!
Thank you for your support and love!
xoxo
